Choose for your trip
IC card
A supported prepaid transport IC card is convenient for ordinary journeys. Keep enough balance and use the same card at entry and exit. Reserved-seat airport express services can require an additional ticket.
Subway pass
Tokyo Subway Ticket covers Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway for its stated validity. JR Yamanote and airport railway sections are outside that coverage. Compare your actual itinerary and purchase eligibility before buying.
Single tickets and bank cards
Single tickets are available at Metro vending machines. Bank-card tap-to-ride support depends on the operator, gate and service; do not assume a card works across every Tokyo railway.
Before you travel
Before entering
Confirm the operator, line code, direction and destination. JR, Metro and Toei gates may be separate even when the station names match. Follow the specific transfer signs rather than the nearest exit.
With a stroller or suitcase
Check the official station map for lifts and accessible exits. An accessible route may be longer than the route planner’s shortest walk. Leave room for station navigation and breaks.
Missed trains and disruptions
Check the operator’s current information and ask station staff before using another route. Keep your accommodation address available offline; do not assume trains run all night.
